You have decided to step into the world of real estate or starting your own business –firstly, congrats! It’s a courageous thing to step out on your own and create your own brand.

But now you’re wondering –where do I start?

Although I can’t tell you specifically where to start with your professional endeavours, I can tell

you where to start when it comes to your online marketing (or just marketing in general)!

You need to start with…

YOUR AUDIENCE

And really, your audience is your ideal client!

They are the person that comes to mind when you think about who is buying your services/products. They are your #1 fan and are always giving you positive feedback.

You need to know who they are so clearly that you could go on and on about them!

I honestly cannot express how important it is that you have your ideal client/customer identified.

You need to know who they are, where they spend their time (online and offline), you need to know what their dreams are, what they struggle with, and just how you help them.

They are the North Star for your content, for your marketing, for your services/products! They tell you how you can serve them.

Whether you are creating ads or social media content, you want to know who you are creating it for.

Otherwise you’ll miss the mark every single time!

If you’re wondering why all the clients you have are such hard work (and sometimes even downright awful!) it’s because you’re not speaking to the right people.

Now, this might intimidate you but I need you to stay with me on this…

You need to identify one person.

I know, I know. One person sounds limiting.

I thought so too and I resisted at first! I thought, “If I’m speaking to one person then I am going to be turning off so many other people.”

And it’s true. I won’t lie to you, you definitely will turn off people. But you need to learn to be okay with that because you can’t serve those people to the best of your ability.

When a client is draining your work is affected –and personally, I wouldn’t want my name tied to bad work!

Those people are worth turning away because when you attract the right people you make more money! Why? Because the right people have no problem paying you to do the job!

The best way to attract the right people is to speak the same way they speak. Hit right on their pain points and solve them. Make them feel seen and heard.

Your content has the potential to do just that, but you have to do the work in getting clear on who you serve!

Identifying your one ideal client takes work and time though, so you need to be ready to commit to learning all you can about them. Talk to them directly, ask them questions and listen.

Take their words and use them EXACTLY for your content.

When you create content you need to be asking “Why does my audience care?”

If you can’t answer that then don’t make it and definitely don’t post it!

When you’re growing your email list or social media account what you’re really doing is creating your community.

With time, you’ll start getting people from your community commenting on your posts, replying to your email, and sending your direct messages to tell you that they love your brand and they love what you do.

I’ve been the person who has sent brand CEOs that and I have had those messages sent to me and let me tell you –it feels incredible!

I didn’t get to that level until recently though, after I got clear on who I was serving and how I was serving them. I put out blog posts that answer questions I get asked, I create social media content promoting my services by talking about how it solves their pain points, and I am constantly listening and asking questions to make sure I am delivering what they need (and more)!

Everything is built on who you serve.

So get clear on that person and you’ll start to see your success build and build and build –just remember that it takes time and consistency!

To help you get clear on who you serve I thought I’d share a questionnaire that helps you identify them and then you’re going to use your answers to create your ‘Avatar’.

It’s very exciting and very important work.

[To get the questions you need to give me your name and email so I can deliver it to your inbox –this way you can always go back to it if you lose it!]

Alright, now go do the work and get clear on who you serve my friend! I promise that if you do the work and spend the time on who your ideal client/customer is you will reap the benefits down the road.

Just make sure you are going back to your ideal client/customer every few months and making any updates along the way!

Try to keep track of their specific problems and words to help you finesse your messaging.
