Running Facebook Ads vs. Boosting Posts: Which is Right For You

Est. Read Time: 3.5 Minutes

The first thing I want to do in this post is dissect the difference between creating and running a Facebook Ad versus Boosting a Post.

I’ll go deep into what each of them are and how they differ so you can use your judgement to determine which one suits your current marketing strategy best.

[You have a marketing strategy, right?]

Boosted Post

So a boosted post is just what it says, a post from your Facebook timeline that you have paid to boost your audience size.

What’s great about boosting now, is that they added the ability to set your audience as wide or as narrow as you’d like! You also don’t need to have an Ads Manager account to boost your posts.

But that also means they don’t have as many customization features as an ad does.

So here’s the three things you get to customize when it comes to boosting:

  1. Your Audience: Be as specific or nonspecific as you like with the audience (we recommend testing a few different ones!)
  2. Your Max Budget: Decide the max you want to spend on boosting your post (we recommend a minimum of $15 a day.)
  3. Your Time Frame: Decide how long you want your audience to see your boosted post.

Facebook Ads

A Facebook Advertisement is a paid ad that will show up in user’s feeds, messenger, stories, side bar, and more.

A newer feature for Facebook Ads is to allow Facebook to choose where it thinks your ad should go, which we love! But it’s something you can test for your own business.

[Before you do any sort of advertising, have you sorted out your business and marketing goals??? Seriously, you will not run successful ads until you have clearly defined objectives/goals.]

While boosting a post can help you have more post views and engagements, Facebook Ads include more advanced customization solutions that are optimized for app installs, website conversions, shop orders, and more.

A great example of this is being able to choose your ad objective, such as store traffic, conversions, and lead generation.

Unlike boosted posts, you have more creative control. You are able to choose from carousel ads, videos, add call-to-action (CTA) buttons, and more!

And even though post boosting allows you to choose your audience’s interests, age, and gender, Facebook Ads takes it even further by allowing you to choose overlapping audience types, lookalike audiences, and more.

In truth, we believe that it is always better to just use that money you were planning to invest in boosting a post or two and create ads. It truly is the best bang for your buck.

Plus you get to dazzle it up way more as an ad versus a boost.

In Conclusion

So in conclusion, if you are even considering running Facebook Ads or boosting posts, we are telling you to just take that leap and do it! (Preferrably Facebook Ads over boosting.)

But before you take that leap, you need to have a marketing strategy in place! You need to have goals set out so you can measure if your ads are successful or not.

You also need it so you can create effective ad copy and creatives. Trust me, you will not reach your audience if you haven’t identified who they are, how they talk, and what they need.

Take the time to sit down and identify your audience and define your goals and objectives. As you do that, ideas will more than likely flow to you on how you can reach them.

It’s a win-win!

I hope we were able to help clarify the difference between boosting post and Facebook Ads and give you more confidence in getting that started.
