Social Media Tools: Canva

Est Read Time: 6 Minutes

Have you been looking for a powerful graphic design tool that won’t break the bank and is user-friendly so you can create beautiful branded graphics and videos for your social media?

Well friend, have I got the tool for you! 😎

CANVA

[Full disclosure before we continue –I am an affiliate partner with Canva! So if you sign up for Canva through this post a portion of your sign-up goes to me. But don’t feel pressure to, it’s just an added bonus to myself for talking about a tool that I love.]

PS- If you love a product you should see if they have affiliate partners! Meaning you get paid for people signing up for their product through you!

Canva is my absolute favourite tool that I use for social media management!

There are quite a few things about Canva that I love, but I’d be here all day with you going on and on about it 😅

So for today, I’m just going to talk about why you should consider using Canva if you haven’t been and highlight just a couple of the many features it has. By the time you’re done reading this you will have a better understanding of what Canva is and how it can help you manage your social media!

Are you ready?

Okay, fantastic!! I am so excited 😄 Let’s dive right in then!

Why Should I Use Canva?

Alright, so my biggest reason you should be using Canva is because it is super user-friendly.

Don’t believe me?

Well, recently in two one-hour sessions, I was able to teach someone who does not like technology and has a basic understanding of using a computer. They were familiar with Microsoft Word and paint.

They were working on a project for our local museum and needed to be able to place text and photos freely and easily on a canvas, but Word was being difficult and paint wasn’t cutting it.

When I first told them about Canva they were intimidated. In fact, they insisted they wouldn’t be able to use it.

Well, guess what!

After two sessions with me to show them the basics and doing a few of their projects with them they went home and continued to use Canva.

*This is important –on their own, they figured out how to use Canva.

And I would like to reiterate that this person is over 50 years old, can barely use their phone, and has the most basic understanding of using computers. And they figured it out!

This got me super excited because I thought, “If they can do it, anyone can do it! They just need someone to tell them and show them.”

So here I am 🤗

Canva is free, but I honestly think it is totally worth it to invest in the Pro Version. It’s $18.99/month or $149.99/year. Doing this unlocks a whole shebang of tools that make your life so much easier. (But if you’re on a tight budget –which I can relate to completely –the free version will do just fine to get you started!)

I’d suggest at least looking at the differences between the free plan and the pro version and decide what will fill your needs.

What Are Some of Canvas’ Powerful Tools?

I am so glad you asked! Now, like I said earlier, I could go on and on and on about Canva and its capabilities (that’s why I believe in using it when it comes to social media management!).

But I don’t have the time and you definitely don’t have the time, so I’d like to highlight one main feature that I think makes your life so much simpler when you’re trying to create a consistent brand.

This tool is: Brand Kits

*Before I talk about this tool though, I have to tell you that it sadly is only available if you pay to upgrade…but again, if you manage your own social media, I HIGHLY recommend paying for the pro version.

[^^NOT BECAUSE THIS IS AN AFFILIATE BLOG POST. I cannot stress this enough, I am only talking to you about this tool because I believe in its ability to make your life easier.]

One of my favourite (Pro) features is the Brand Kits! It really helps me stay consistent with my brand and the brands I manage.

This feature has made life for me so much easier! Now I’m not trying to remember what fonts to use with each brand, I don’t have to write down the colour number so I get it the same every single time, and you can even upload multiple logos for each brand!

Getting clear and consistent on your brand is now unbelievably simple thanks to this feature.

Choose from templates and then make them your brand’s own by using your colours and fonts that are saved in the brand kit.

Save yourself time from constantly uploading or looking for your logo because it’s now uploaded into your brand kit and easy to find and include!

For real, if you are struggling to maintain a consistent brand presence in the way of appearance and tone then you’ll definitely want to look into using Canva.

A Few More Features

Okay, so very quickly, I will highlight a few more features that Canva offers that make it worth trying to use.

  • Archive of Graphics/Videos (free)
    • Everything you create can be found on your dashboard
  • Turn your graphics into a video (free)
    • In the top left corner, you can ‘Animate’ your graphics and turn them into a video!
  • Upload your own images (free)
    • Need to include some of your own photography?! Just drag and drop it from the folder right onto the canvas and find it again under the ‘Uploads’ tab
  • Create a post perfectly sized (free)
    • Canva has most social media platform posts perfectly sized when you “Create a Design”
  • Resize your canvas (pro)
    • If you’re reusing a graphic on multiple platforms you can resize the image to fit perfectly on every platform

I really cannot stress enough to you just how amazing Canva is, friend! I found it two years ago when I first started my business and quite literally I would not be where I am in my business without it.

My first go-to tool for design was Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, but they’re overwhelming to learn! Sure its capabilities are much deeper than Canva, but I am not a graphic designer. (And I don’t think you are either, otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this 😆)

Canva makes life easier for managing your social media when you’re not a professional graphic designer. It’s a tool that is easy to learn and I think everyone should be using when it comes to creating attractive, on-brand graphics.

Check it out HERE and give it a try!

Stick to the free version if you love it or upgrade it up to pro, either way, I am certain you’ll feel a little less stressed when it comes to managing your social media.

Best Regards,

Jordan
